Speaking to The Indian Express, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General of NMCG said: “Today the Executive Committee of NMCG decided to get involved with Chacha Chaudhary character to raise awareness among children and young people about the rejuvenation of the Ganges and other rivers. Let us assume, ‘Ganga ki Baat, Chacha Choudhary Ke Sath’ is a public engagement activity as part of the general public relations work of the Namami Gange Mission. “

Mishra said the NMCG has run various high profile programs such as Ganga Quest and a television series – Rag Rag Mein Ganga – and “Ganga ki Baat, Chacha Choudhary Ke Sath” will be one such activity. Various comic book stories will be created as part of this series, in which Chacha Chaudhary will talk about keeping rivers clean, he said.

He said that Diamond Toons, the editor of the Chacha Chaudhary series, submitted a proposal to work with the NMCG 5-6 months ago to raise awareness of the Namami Gange program. The NMCG also discussed the proposal with the World Bank, which supports the Namami Gange program.

Meanwhile, a statement by Jal Shakti’s ministry said that the NMCG’s executive committee had decided to designate Chacha Chaudhary as the mascot of the Namami Gange program.

“At the 37th session of the Executive Committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), chaired by Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, NMCG, Chacha Chaudhary was declared the mascot of the Namami Gange program and some major projects in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar discussed and assessed ”, it says in the declaration.
