Born in Malaysia, world champion for Singapore

Loh Kean Yew made history with his success in becoming world champion badminton 2021. He was born in Malaysia but later became a Singaporean flag when he started his career.

Loh Kean Yew became world champion after beating India’s Kidambi Srikanth 21-15, 22-20 in the final. The win made Loh Kean Yew the first Singaporean badminton player to become world champion.

“I can’t really think about it. Earlier this year I didn’t think something like this could happen. I’m very happy,” said Loh Kean Yew, quoted by BWF.

Loh Kean Yew admitted he had great motivation to catch up after a number of competitions earlier in the year.

“Bangkok is a wake-up call for me that after a long break I am still far behind the top players.”

“That motivated me to train and prepare for the Olympics. Then I trained with Viktor Axelsen and gained experience. I am very happy to have done this, ”said Loh Kean Yew.

Loh Kean Yew is a Malaysian born player who made history as a badminton world champion for Singapore.

according to Messages, Loh Kean Yew moved to Singapore in 2009 at the age of 12. After that, Loh Kean Yew continued to forge and managed to donate medals for Singapore at the SEA Games.

At the age of 24, Loh Kean Yew was not actually at the Badminton World Cup in 2021, but was able to convince in the last few months and thus became one of the dark horses of the tournament.

Apparently Loh Kean Yew eliminated a number of top players on the way to becoming world champion, such as Viktor Axelsen (2nd seed), Kantaphon Wangcharoen (16), Anders Antonsen (3) and Kidambi Srikanth (12).

Malaysia itself has not had a badminton world champion since the tournament in 1977, although it has long been considered one of the great powers in the badminton world.
