Bengaluru hosts a global conference for startups from June 2nd

An international conference for start-ups, the India Global Innovation Summit (IGIC), will take place here from Thursday.

The inaugural edition of IGIC is being organized by strategic consultancy Smadja & Smadja in partnership with Karnataka Digital Economy Mission and support from founding sponsors Catamaran Ventures and Tata Digital.

The inaugural meeting will host more than 80 speakers from India and countries including Singapore, Israel, Switzerland, the United States, Japan, Korea and Germany, organizers said in a statement.

The two-day conference will feature 22 sessions with more than 40 international speakers discussing issues relevant to entrepreneurs, innovators and top venture capitalists, it said.

Karnataka Premier Basavaraj Bommai is expected to attend the conference as the main guest. Some of the other notable speakers include Karnataka IT Minister Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan, Infosys Limited co-founder NR Narayana Murthy and technology researcher and Stanford University professor Paul Saffo.

President of Smadja & Smadja Advisory, Claude Smadja, a former chief executive of the World Economic Forum, said India now ranks 46th in the Global Innovation Index, up from 66th in 2016, and has the third largest startup ecosystem in the world.

“As a result, India Global Innovation Connect comes at an opportune time to highlight how India’s start-up and innovation story is becoming a global story,” he added.
