At the World Auditors Meeting, BPK becomes Vice Chairman of the United Nations External Auditors

The Supreme Audit Office of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) has been elected Vice-Chair of the Panel of External Auditors of the United Nations (UN) for 2022. The BPK Vice-Chair, Agus Joko Pramono, was the Chair and Vice-Chair of the United Nations External Auditors Panel in a series of the 61st Ordinary Session of the United Nations External Auditors Panel.

To initiate the official statement of the BPK on Thursday (December 9th, 2021), representatives of 12 auditing bodies agreed by consensus that the Court of Auditors of the Republic of Chile would chair the body and the chairman of the Indonesian Supreme Court of Auditors as deputy chairman of the body. The election of BPK as Vice-Chair of the UN body underscores Indonesia’s active role and contribution to the international world, particularly in international organizations.

The body of the external auditor of the United Nations, the specialized agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was established on the basis of resolution 1438 (XIV) of the UN General Assembly of December 5, 1959.

The panel consists of the United Nations Board of Auditors, external auditors from specialized agencies and the IAEA. The purpose of this body is to provide a forum for the coordination and exchange of information on the audit methodology and audit results of external auditors.

The results of the UN body of external auditors are presented to the management of United Nations agencies for further follow-up, particularly in relation to issues relevant to improving governance.

The leadership of the international institution / organization (within the framework of the UN system) can also convey that the body issues opinions or recommendations for overcoming significant problems. Members of this body are the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Tanzania.

Currently, the BPK is the only country in history where the SAI has held two strategic UN audit positions, namely BPC Vice-Chair Agus Joko Pramono, as Vice-Chair of the United Nations Independent Audit Committee (UN-IAAC) who is the Auditor PBB Internal and the chairman of BPK Agung F. Sampurna became the deputy chairman of the UN body of external auditors, which was responsible for the coordination and external audit methodology for all units under PBB.
