The Oscars were trending this year for a completely different reason. While last year’s best were being honored at the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith hijacked Chris Rock for making jokes about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. The act of aggression also led to Smith’s 10-year ban from attending the Oscars or any other academy event.
Now, weeks later, AR Rahman has responded to the incident. On the popular TV show The Kapil Sharma Show, the composer-singer was shown a picture of himself with Will Smith. Although the photo was old, some comments were made about it after the Oscars incident.
Sharing his experience with Will Smith, AR Rahman said: “He’s a sweetheart. He’s a nice guy,” he adds. “Sometimes things like that happen.” Rahman was also present at the Oscars.
On the show, AR Rahman also opened up about his inspirations. The music maestro shared that while there are many who have inspired him on his journey as a musician, he “has now discovered the old music, like Madan Mohan Sahab, SD Burman Sahab, Hridaynath Mangeshkar and all the greats”. He added that in the current generation of musicians, “Shankar, Amit Trivedi, Vishal-Shekhar. Bengali, Malayalam and Tamil composers are brimming with talent.”
AR Rahman was on Kapil Sharma Show to promote Heropanti 2. He composed music for the film. He was joined on the show by the film’s director Ahmed Khan and the star cast including Tiger Shroff, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tara Sutaria.
Heropanti 2 marks the first time Shroff sang a song in the film. The actor sang “Miss Hairan,” composed by the Oscar winner. The Ahmed Khan director comes out on April 29th.
