36 years later, Anil Kapoor is back as Mr. India, his iconic title character from Shekhar Kapur's 1987 film. No, it's not a sequel, but a commercial for Google Pixel. However, fans can't get over the fact that Anil still looks the same in the Mr. India avatar and want him to star in a sequel already. Anil hits back as Mr. India
In the new ad, little Jugal, who is associated with Arun Verma (Anil's character in Mr. India), is seen sneaking into a haunted house. He accidentally bumps into an ornate vase, which is about to fall to the floor and shatter into pieces. But suddenly it begins to float in the air and is brought back to the spot from which it fell. Anil Kapoor as Arun Verma then appears out of nowhere as Mr. India, the iconic character who has the power of invisibility thanks to a special bracelet. The Mr. India theme is also playing in the background when Anil appears.
Arun and Jugal then discover the Google Pixel smartphone and Anil's voiceover then explains the features of the gadget. The story would further unfold when “To Be Continued” appears on the screen at the end of the commercial.
Anil took to his Instagram account on Saturday to share the video with the caption: “The beauty of time, what makes it so precious is that it never stands still.” Our lives are full of ups and downs, appearances and Disappear… Mr. India is a phenomenon that even time could not erase, a ghost and at the same time the most real person I have ever played. And now, 38 years later, Mr. India is back with the Google #Pixel8! In the flesh and unfiltered, only the tried and tested and timeless soul of Arun Verma resurfaces to entertain and delight you. So watch this screen carefully because this superhero has been known to disappear in the blink of an eye (wink wink emoji).”
Reactions to Mr. India's return
Anil's Instagram handle only showed this new post as the older posts were made invisible similar to Mr. India. The fans couldn't contain their excitement. One of them commented, “How on earth is it possible that this man still looks the same even after almost 35 years since this film was released?” Many of them called for a sequel to the film. A fan wrote, “The sequel to Mr. India should have come out already. Just seeing that recreation in a cell phone ad gave me goosebumps.” “Just do the sequel already!” commented another.
Mr. India producer and Anil's elder brother Boney Kapoor hinted at a sequel when sharing the video on #MrIndia #MrIndia2 @AnilKapoor.”
Shekhar Kapur also took to his looks the same? Maybe the bracelet will give you not only the power of invisibility, but also eternal youth!”
Mr. India also starred Sridevi, Satish Kaushik, Annu Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Ahmed Khan and Aftab Shivdasani, among others.
