Act immediately: 8 states with high positivity rates told | India News

NEW DELHI: The center raised concerns about certain districts reporting high levels of Covid positivity and called for stricter measures to control the spread of the infection.
Health Minister Rajesh Bhushan has written to eight states with high positivity rates urging them to take immediate action to end cases, as well as providing details of the actions taken under the Disaster Management Act.
The states that received the notice from the Department of Health are Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Odisha and Sikkim. These states have the maximum number of districts with over 10% positivity.
“Although the rate of daily new cases in the country has decreased significantly, continuous monitoring of weekly case positivity as well as case history in each district is required in order to detect early warning signals of the spread of the infection,” said Bhushan in his letters to the chief secretaries.
For example, the letter to the chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh – who has the highest 19 of its 25 districts with a positivity rate above 10% – pointed to concern that the state has increased from 28 positivity rate in the state in the past four weeks, said Bhushan. The state reported a 12% increase in new cases each week.
Similarly, Bhushan’s letter to Jishnu Bharua, Assam’s chief secretary, expressed concern that 29 of the state’s 33 counties reported more than 100 new cases in the week of July 4th.
The center emphasized the need for stricter containment measures, increased testing and increased vaccinations. “It’s important to note that containment is the primary strategy for flattening the curve. It is crucial to strengthen immediate contact tracing and quarantine in all cases, ”the center said in a statement.
With 60% of districts across India having a case positivity rate of over 10% in the northeast, Interior Minister Ajay Bhalla urged them on Wednesday to adopt the five-fold strategy of “test-track-treat vaccination and compliance with Covid-appropriate behavior”.
In a meeting he chaired, the current status and development of active cases, the case mortality rate (CFR), the case positivity rate (CPR) and the vaccination status were discussed. It was found that out of 73 districts in the country with a CPR above 10%, 46 districts are in the northeast where strict containment measures are in need of enforcement.
